Monument to Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko also known as Kobzar Taras, who was a Ukrainian poet, and political figure, which his literary heritage is regarded to be the foundation of modern Ukrainian literature and, to a large extent, the modern Ukrainian language, place in the center of the city of Chortkiv which was once home to a large Jewish community and was annihilated, brutally, by the Germans during the Second World War in Ternopil Oblast (province) in western Ukraine.
