Monteriggioni in Tuscany, Italy. Close to Siena, Monteriggioni is a walled 13th/14th century town. During a tour of Tuscany this is an essential destination. The castle, built by the Republic of Siena at the beginning of the 13th century, was to defend themselves from the enemy Florence. A beautiful destination for tourists, comprising of churches, shops and restaurants. A popular place but as far as tourist destinations go, it seemed quiet and relaxing when we visited. Certain scenes from the film Gladiator and The English Patient were filmed here.
