Miss Muriel Thompson (10 June 1875 - 03 March 1939), was the chauffeur for the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), a suffragette organization, in 1909. In 1908 she had become Brooklands’ first female winner when she won the Ladies’ Bracelet Handicap and the Scratch motor car Race. Muriel Thompson served in the First World War as an ambulance driver and member of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry. She joined the FANY as a driver in January 1915. On 29 March she was personally decorated by King Albert with the Kinght's Cross of the Order of Leopold II for evacuating wounded Belgian sold
