The publisher, the director of the firm and some editors of the critical news magazine had been arrested on suspicion of treason. The Social Democratic Party in the Bonn parliament, who form the Opposition - the reupon submitted 18 questions which were answered by Herr Hocherl, the Minister of the Interior, in front of a packed house and large numbers of the public. ChancellorAdenauer also intervened s3everal times in the lively debate. The top pictue shows in the front frow from left to right: Herr Blank, the Minister of Labour, Herr Stucklen, the Minister of Posts and Telegraphs, Herr Scheel, the Minister for Economic Co-operation, and Chancellor Adenauer.In the bottom picture Dr. Arndt of the Social Democratic Party is putting a question to the Government, who streesed once more both the freedomn of the Press as incvorporated in the Constitution and also the legal protection of each citizen. All political observers noted at this Bundestag debate that public opinion has vecome an important factor in Germany. It may be said that democracy has taken root.
