Mar. 10, 1970 - ~100, 000 Duel On Blackheath - Rehearsals For New Play. For the first time since 1832, duels were fought on Blackheath this morning, when actors Gerald Harper, David Cook and Roger Ostime fought with epees as part of their rehearsals for a new play at Greenwich Theatre. The duels grew out of rehearsals at Greenwich theatre for John Bowen's new play - The Corsican Brothers. Because of the considerable amount of sword fighting in the play, Greenwich theatre engaged William Hobbs, fights arranger for the National Theatre and one of the world's leading experts in stage fighting, to ensure g~eat skill and accuracy in the duelling sequences. In today's duels, Mr. Roger Ostime (who plays Montgiron, a Rich Parisian gentleman of good family) lost to Mr. Gerald Harper (a poorer Parisian gentleman of better family), and then Mr. David Cook (who plays both Corsican brothers, Lucien and Fabien Die Franchi) beat Mr. Gerald Harper. It has been necessary to insure the Greenwich Theatre Company for ~100, 000 during the rehearsals and run of the play. The Corzican Brothers opens at Greenwich theatre on March 17th.
