Last potato harvest: With 100mm of rain falling recently, a self-propelled potato harvester is hired at over £300 an hour to cope with muddy conditions. The harvest would normally be complete by the 15th. This last field will be harvested by Friday with 10 hectares yielding 600 tonnes of Maris Piper potatoes. However the expense of the hire outweighs the profit and much of the potato demand dried up during lockdown with catering outlets shut
