'Lucy, Countess of Carlisle, and Dorothy Percy's Visit to their Father Lord Percy, when under Attainder', c1831. Lucy Hay, Countess of Carlisle and her sister, Dorothy Percy, visiting their father, Henry Percy, 9th Earl of Northumberland. Percy was suspected of having been involved in the Gunpowder Plot, and was fined £30, 000 and inprisoned in the Tower of London for 17 years. This scene shows his daughters visiting him after having secured his release. From the Tate collection, London.
