London, UK. 5th July 2022. British-Ukrainians celebrate Ivana-Kupala in Greenwich Park. Ivan Kupala Day, also known as Ivana-Kupala or Kupala Night, is a traditional pagan holiday folk celebration in eastern Slavic cultures. Girls create and wear flower wreaths and perform various rituals. Initially, Ivana-Kupala was a pagan fertility rite that was also connected to the celebration of the summer solstice when nights are the shortest. After Christianity arrived, the rites were intertwined with the Christian feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist. Credit: Guy Corbishley/Alamy Live News
