Operated by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), and named after the god of rivers and water in Greek mythology, the ship was formerly a commercial oil-rig support vessel, until it was purchased by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in November 2022. It is the Navy’s first Multi-Role Ocean Surveillance (MROS) ship used as a launchpad for remotely-operated vehicles and as a testbed for a suite of emerging capabilities.
