Kandy, Sri Lanka - 12 February 2013 The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is an Buddhist temple and reliquary in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. This is its central prayer hall, one of the most sacred sots in the country. The temple is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. This was brought to Sri Lanka around 300 CE. Since then, it has played an important role in Sri Lanka, as it is believed that whoever holds the relic has the divine right to rule the country.
