DAVID TOY was not a U.S. citizen when he was drafted in the U.S. Army where he served from March 1943 to March 1946, he was stationed in Kunming, China-Burma-India Theater. He received four medals during his service. Following his honorable discharge he finished college and dental school at Marquette University. He retired in 2014 at the age of 90..About The Chinese-American Veteran Service: As many as 20, 000 Chinese-Americans served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. About 40% of those who served were not U.S. citizens due to federal laws denying citizenship to persons of Chinese descent. In 2018 the U.S. Congress approved the creation of the Chinese-American World War II Veteran Congressional Gold Medal to recognize Chinese-Americans contribution to the war effort.
