It could lead to a sudden nationwide collapse of the system under which private patients are cared for at Health Service Hospitals. The B.U.P.A. which runs insurance schemes for private patients is investigating alternative plans for managing without the 5, 070 private Health Service beds. The British United Provident Association (BUPA) are advising private patients to try to find beds in private hospitals, instead of taking private beds run by Health Service.
