John Pym was a 17th-century English politician who played a key role in the lead up to the English Civil War. He was a member of Parliament and a leader of the opposition to King Charles I, advocating for greater parliamentary authority and religious reform. He played a key role in the impeachment of the king's chief minister, the Duke of Buckingham, and later in the passage of the Grand Remonstrance, which outlined Parliament's grievances against the king. He is remembered as a champion of parliamentary democracy and constitutional rights.
