May 11, 2019 - Jicin, Czech Republic - International Meeting of Trabant drivers which is expected to attract more than 220 vehicles of the communist era cars will be meeting in the city Jicin in the Bohemian Paradise. ..The Trabant is a car that was produced by former East German auto maker VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau in Zwickau. It was the most common vehicle in East Germany, and was also exported to countries both inside and outside the Eastern Bloc. Due to its outdated and inefficient two-stroke engine (which produced poor fuel economy for its low power output and thick, smoky exhaust), and production shortages, the Trabant was regarded with derisive affection as a symbol of the extinct former East Germany and of the fall of the Eastern Bloc. The Trabant was a steel monocoque design with the roof, trunk lid, hood, fenders, and doors made of Duroplast. Duroplast was a hard plastic (similar to Bakelite) made of recycled materials: cotton waste from the Soviet Union and phenol resins from the East German dye industry.
