Illustration picture shows the arrival of an A400M transport airplane of the Belgian Defence, at the military airport in Melsbroek, Steenokkerzeel, Tuesday 22 December 2020. In total, Belgium has ordered eight A400M aircraft, one of which is on behalf of Luxembourg, to replace the current C-130s. Capable of conducting tactical missions and strategic flights of up to 5, 400 kilometers, the A400M must fill a gap that European armies have repeatedly had to identify in terms of air transport. The aircraft has a length of 45 meters and a wingspan of 42 meters and can not only transport heavy equipment and personnel, but also drop vehicles and up to 116 paratroopers over hostile territory. It can also be used for evacuation missions and can refuel other aircraft in the air. BELGA PHOTO LAURIE DIEFFEMBACQ
