Hinton St George, Somerset, UK - 25 October 2018. A young woman holds a "Punkie" during the annual "punkie night" procession around Hinton St George village. A "Punkie" is a hollowed out mangold or mangle-wrurzel with a lit candle inside to make a lantern. Although the origins of the custom are obscure legend has it that the wives of Hinton St George went to met their husbands as they came back from the Chiselbrough Fair, held on the last Thursday in October. They made lanterns out of hollowed out mangle-wurzels to light their way. Credit: Tom Corban/Alamy Live News
