Hankley Common wildfire, Surrey, England, UK. Photographed 5 days after the huge fire that started on 24th July, 2022, and was declared a major incident by Surrey Fire & Rescue Service. This was the third of a series of fires at the common during the hot dry weather this July. An area of 50 or more hectares of heathland, a valuable wildlife habitat for ground-nesting birds and rare reptiles, has been destroyed. The fire service are still monitoring the site and damping down any hotspots. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
