HANAU, GERMANY - FEBRUARY 17: People demonstrate to remember the nine victims of the 2020 Hanau mass shooting and to protest against right-wing extremism on February 17, 2024, in Hanau, Germany. February 19, 2020, a local right-wing extremist shot dead nine people with immigrant roots before killing his mother and himself. Mass demonstrations against right-wing extremism have been taking place across Germany on a nearly daily basis for weeks following the revelation that prominent members of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) met in November with neo-Nazis to discuss how they might expel millions of immigrants as well as Germany with immigrant roots. The AD is currently polling at 22% in Germany ahead of upcoming European parliamentary elections.
