Granary mill stones uncovered at Ostia Antica. Ostia Antica, located at the mouth of the Tiber River, was the port city of ancient Rome. Uncovered there are mosaics that acted as "storefront signs" for commercial businesses—mostly shipping, grain merchants—from around the Mediterranean. It was the main center for commerce and trade for the Roman Empire mainly during the Age of Augustus (27 BC-31 AD). The photo dates to 1970.
