Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986), one of the great American Modernist painters, is known by many for her large scale paintings of flowers close-up. As a child, Georgia received art lessons at home and went on to study at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Arts Students League. She was promoted by photographer Alfred Stieglitz, whom she married in 1924. They lived in New York until Alfred's death, after which Georgia moved to New Mexico to pursue her paintings influenced by the Southwest.
