French Early Submarine, Le Plongeur (or Diver), built in Rochefort France, was the first submarine powered by a compressed-air engine. The Submarine was invented by French Naval Commander Siméon Bourgois and Engineer Charles Brun in 1863. Vintage Illustration or Engraving 1865.
