Sie ist vollkommen transparent, mit schwarzen Augen, einem roten Fleck in der Mittellinie dicht hinter den Augen und bisweilen mit einem zweiten roten Streifen vor dem Anus. Diese roten Flecke sind offenbar im Darmkanal und sind die Reste des Dotters. Der Cephalothorax nimmt ^/^ der Länge des ganzen Tieres ein und ist vorn in einen augenscheinlich horizontalen, hinten gerundeten Schnabel verlängert. Claus (3) bildet zwei Stadien, gefangen in Helgoland alsPaguruslarven (Fig. 226, 227) ab, die an Länge 2 resp. 4 mm maßen. Späterverbesserte er seine Bestimmung und sagte, daß es Galathealarven sind(Claus 5). Die beiden Stadien von Pagurus bernhardus, über die Rathke(l)berichtet, gehören zu Galathea, wahrscheinlich zu G. intermedia. Waddington-Bournemouth ein-gesandt worden. Sie ist augenscheinlich beim Ausschlüpfen beobachtet worden.Die teilweise abgebrochenen Borsten des Telson unterstützen diese Ansicht.Die Larve ist in Fig. 495 ungefähr in natürlicher Größe und in Fig. 494 ver-größert dargestellt. Zwei Paare funktionsfähiger Maxillipeden sind vorhanden,die Exopoditen tragen vier Fiederborsten, die Endopoditen bestehen aus jevier Segmenten. Der
