Florence Cathedral, formally the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence, Tuscany, Italy, seen here in the 19th century. Building of the Cathedral began in 1296 and was completed in 1436 in the Gothic style to a design of Arnolfo di Cambio, the dome was engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi.
