Filed photo dated 05/05/1980 of armed police on the a joining balcony to the Iranian Embassy, when units of the Special Air Service (SAS) helped police end the six day siege at the building. One of the last surviving SAS soldiers who stormed the Iranian embassy in London has died. Mel Parry was part of the SAS team which ended the 1980 siege after six armed men took 26 people hostage within the building. Issue date: Tuesday May 23, 2023.
