Scene divided by 3 leafy, flowering trees with fruits; a heron with other birds in foreground; long staircase leading to pagoda on outcrop overhanging a river with a junk; building on hill (R) (BRD) picture-frame border with stylized alternating half-piastres superimposed on cross-hatched background with flower heads; acanthus leaves at corners This panel was photographed by French & Co. (see GCPA 0243435); the negative was then manipulated to create 2 additional photographs which make it look as though the tapestry was cut to create 2 tapestries (see GCPA 0243436 & GCPA 0243437). In fact, according to stock sheet 23244 the tapestry was, indeed, cut after French & Co. bought the panel back from Satterwhite in 1921: "Chateauvert -repairing & cutting in two, " dated 5/25/1921. The resulting 2 tapestries were then sold to B. N. Duke.
