Esplanade Charles de Gaulle is a urban garden and plaza that covers one hectare of the city of Nimes.. La Fontaine Pradier is the centerpiece of the Esplanade. It was carved in white marble by James Pradier, and won the Grand Prix of Rome. The fountain and sculpture has been in the center of the Nimes Esplanade since 1845. The statues and fountains represent rivers, naiads, the source Nemausa and the Fountain of Eure and two colossi with protruding muscles the Rhone and the Vidourle.
