Elizabeth of Bohemia, Princess Palatine (1618-1680), Philosopher. Elizabeth was the eldest daughter of Frederick V and Elizabeth Stuart. She was highly intelligent, spoke six languages and had a special interest in philosophy. Between 1643 and 1646 she corresponded with Descartes. Elizabeth questioned how the body and mind could communicate if the mind-body dichotomy existed. Descartes never satisfactorily answered her question. In 1667 she entered a protestant convent, later becoming abbess and giving refuge to persecuted protestants.
