Pascua de los Moraos, or Easter Carnival of the Purple ones, is celebrated in Carcabuey on East Sunday and is one of only 3 such carnivals in the whole of Spain. Cadiz and Majorca being the other 2. It's name is said to have originated from the purple robes worn by one of the Brotherhoods at Easter time. The whole community of Carcabuey and villages and towns around are involved, with people of all ages coming out to parade the streets in their unique and well contrived costumes. The festival starts at midday and goes on into the early hours of the next morning. Noted as a Tourist Interest in Andalucia.
