Illustration of an exaggerated Earth seen from the surface of the Moon. The Sun is behind us and below the horizon, so the Earth is seen in gibbous phase, its blue light providing the illumination for the scene. No stars are seen here – they are washed out by the light of the Earth. Seen from the Moon, the Earth appears roughly four times bigger than the Moon does in Earth's sky, and around 50 times brighter, but it is greatly exaggerated in this view.
