Dresden, Germany. 03rd June, 2020. The stern of the paddle steamer "Dresden" seems to be lying on dry land at the Brühlsche Terrasse. The Sächsische Dampfschiffahrt Dresden (SDS) has filed for insolvency. The background is financial difficulties, for which the SDS last week blamed the missing tranche of a loan from the Free State. The "White Fleet" operates with nine paddle steamers built between 1879 and 1929 as well as two modern passenger ships and is considered the oldest and largest fleet of paddle steamers in the world.
