A newly-built $400 million Amazon fulfillment center, the largest in Michigan, remains idle as Amazon announced plans to lay off 18,000 workers as the national economy softens. The warehouse, on the site of the former Michigan State Fairgrounds, was intended to open in 2022, employing 1,200 workers, but its opening has been delayed at least a year.
