The College became a universty in 1975 and in 1986 it was renamed as the King Fadh Univeristy of Petroleum and Minerals. Dahran is the headquarters of ARAMCO, the saudi government owned oil company. In 1935 the first oil well in Saudi Arabia was drilled there.
