Curtiss XP-3A No.2 28-189 (msn 10993), fitted with a 410hp Pratt & Whitney R-1340-1 Wasp, in a close fitting NACA cowling. Not a prototype, but a production P-3A used for test work in development of the famous NACA cowling. It was placed second in the 1929 National Air Race Free-for-All at 186 mph (294'5 km/h), when the US Army raced against civilians for the last time. Later converted to XP-21 No.2 and then to a P-IF.
