circa 1950, historical, the English journalist and author J W Robertson Scott, Idbury, Oxford, England, UK. Born in 1866 in Wigton Cumberland, he was the founder in 1927 of the magazine, The Countryman, which published articles and reviews of rural life and the British countryside. In 1947 his work was recognised when he was made a Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour and in 1949 awarded an honorary MA from Oxford University. His book, England's Green and Pleasant Land, written in 1925, became a best-seller.
