Captain Alfred Dreyfus at his second trial (court martial) at Rennes, France, 9 September 1899. His convictions were the result of a complex miscarriage of justice combined with antisemitism. He was first unjustly convicted of treason in 1894, convicted again in 1899, and it was only in 1906 that his innocence was officially established.
