Portrait of British politician and statesman Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965) who stood as a Conservative parliamentary candidate at the June 1899 by-election in Oldham, Lancashire. The election was narrowly won by the Liberals. Churchill was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945, and again from 1951 to 1955.
