Actors in a theatrical performance. Original text: "Theatrical Performance. Scene from a historical play dealing with ancient times entitled 'Gosho Guruma, ' literally 'The Imperial Cart.' The figure in white standing upon the cart represents the Mikado of the time. The Japanese theatre is the only place where the life of Old Japan can be studied in these radical latter days. The acting, costumes and scenic effects are utterly unlike anything seen outside the Orient."
