BERING SEA – U.S. Coast Guard Seaman Evan Pace strikes a pelican hook with a sledgehammer Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB-20) in the Bering Sea. The pelican hook wraps around the anchor chain and prevents the movement of the anchor. Removal of the pelican hook is necessary in order to free the ship's anchor. The Healy is one of two ice breakers in U.S. service and is the only military ship dedicated to conducting ice research in the Arctic. U.S. Coast Guard
