. An early paper-covered binding. Italian (Bologna?), c. 1491(?). Paper wrappers decorated with a woodcut image in red of the Virgin Mary within a mandorla. Although this cover lacks the book it was made for, the woodcut is another impression of one on the unique copy of the Miracoli della Madonna (Bologna, 1491), suggesting the wrapper indicated the subject-matter of the book. Assumption of the Virgin. between 1490 and 1492. Bodleian Libraries, Assumption of the Virgin
