Aloha Hospitality International is pictured, March 6, 2016, in Loxley, Alabama. The building was previously used for A Step Ahead Christian Day Care. The day care, now closed, is one of several owner Deborah Stokes has opened over the past few years. Alleged problems and violations have brought the day cares under scrutiny, with critics saying that because the businesses operate as Christian day cares, they slip through a “religious loophole” that allows them to bypass the licensing and safety standards required of non-Christian day cares. Stokes now operates another day care, Little Nemo’s, in Spanish Fort, Alabama. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
