A young man holding a Palestinian flag stands on the head of one of the lions in Trafalgar Square, in central London as thousands of British Muslims held a demonstration in the square in protest at the Israeli action against Palestinians in the Middle East. *Demonstrators tore and burnt this Israeli flag as they clambered up Nelson's Column. Despite appeals from the organisers, the Muslim Association of Britain, to keep order, scores of people crammed into the centre of the square shouting "down with Israel" and "jihad" - which is the Muslim call to holy war.
