According to a February 2022 publication by FAO, per capita tea consumption between 2011 and 2020 has declined in Europe by 1.4 percent, North America (2.3 percent), the Russian Federation (3.5 percent). The report also revealed that per capita tea consumption in traditional European market countries such as United Kingdom has decreased by 2.4 percent as well. Declines were also registered in Germany (2.4 percent) and the Netherlands (2.3 percent). On the other hand, per capita tea consumption in tea producing countries has increased during the same period. Stronger growth in per capita tea consumption is still expected in emerging economies and developing countries. Over the next decade, a strong growth is expected in many producing countries in Africa and Asia, such as India (2.1 percent predicted annual growth in 2029), Bangladesh (2.8 percent), Sri Lanka (1.4 percent), Malawi (4.0 percent), Kenya (4.3 percent), Rwanda (5.1 percent), Indonesia (1.5 percent).
