A wooden religious sculpture and a young Padaung woman with rings of brass around her neck in the village of Nai Soi Mae Hong Son Thailand April 2003 The pole has been erected for the traditional Padaung New Year celebrations held at the beginning of April every year The Padaung Tribe whose women are famous for their long necks created by the heavy brass neck rings that they wear have their homeland in Burma But many have now fled over to Thailand where they live in refugee camps along the border Beside one of these camps Nai Soi village has been created a village where the Padaung make a living by receiving tourists who pay an entrance fee
