The 108 Druk Wangyal memorial stupas were built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, the eldest Queen Mother, in honor of the Bhutanese soldiers killed in the December 2003 battle against Assamese insurgents from India. Dochula Pass is located in the Himalaya Mountains at an elevation of 3, 100 meters (10, 200 feet).
