A very large, toothed metal spring trap with anchor chains. Research would indicate it is from the middle of the 19th century and there is a suggestion that it was exported from the UK abroad for catching big cats. Other suggestions are that it was simply a very large fox trap. The spikes on the trigger plate were for impaling bait to attract animals. It is seen here in the set position.
