A secret test flight of a Hawker Siddeley (Bae) Nimrod ended in an emergency at Newcastle Airport. The plane landed just hours before the Government was expected to announce a decision in favour of Nimrod's for the airbourne early warning system to be used by the RAF. 7th December, 1986.
