A model 1848 helmet for artillery officers, Black lacquered leather skull, gilded mountings, metal chinscales on screws, and fabric cockades. Authentic plate, but not associated. Black silk lining. Peaks with red and green cover. The skull lightly recoated with black lacquer. Otherwise in good condition with very well-preserved gilding. The blue of the Schleswig-Holstein cockade has been re-dyed. Rare helmet. Cf. U. Schiers.
