A large battle axe, historicism in the Saxon style, circa 1580 Curved axe blade with quatrefoil perforation and a strong quadrangular beak on the back. Hollow-forged, spirally grooved iron haft with slender spike of diamond section. Grip with iron wire winding and octagonal guard disk. Faceted pommel. Estoc with bayonet lock inside the haft. All surfaces richly covered with etched decoration of tendrils and trophies on dotted ground, the blade with the Saxon coat of arms on one side. Traces of corrosion.
