A Kashmiri elderly woman carrying a sack walks through the blooming mustard fields during the spring season in Pulwama, south of Srinagar. The spring season in Kashmir valley is a period of two long months starting from mid-March and ends in mid-May. According to the Directorate of Agriculture of the state government of Jammu and Kashmir, the Kashmir valley comprising six districts has an estimated area of 65 thousand hectares of paddy land under mustard cultivation, which is about 40 per cent of the total area under paddy.
