A 1917 portrait of the German Wehrmacht Field Marshal Erwin Rommel as a young Lieutenant. He was known for his daring and rapid decision making during the blitzkrieg in France and in North Africa. He was implicated in the July 20th 1944 assassination attempt on Hitler and was offered suicide to keep his reputation and to protect his family, or to go through a public trial. He chose suicide to protect his family.
